While VibeRotation 19 expands and diversifies, "Go All Night"-- a new song from Hit-Boy featuring Travis $cott-- reminds us the Fontana, CA native is the best producer in the game. Hit-Boy has a unique sound and it is the definition of consistent. In a beat breakdown video for Beyoncé's "***Flawless" on YouTube he calls it the "Hit-Boy bounce" (believe me when you hear it your body does literally that). Hit made it his signature during his G.O.O.D. music days with Kanye and Jay Z on tracks like the famous "Ni**as in Paris". Range, versatility, and added continuity is essential in the music industry, Hit-Boy fused his bounce with New York's boom-bap style Joey Bada$$ masters in their joint song "Belly Of The Beast". Exposure to the heavyweights he has befriended only produces more success and expansion, his Hits Since '87 squad will be the first to tell you. Hit-Boy has also stepped in front of the mic proving he can rap and perfect his production craft, using HS87's debut album We The Plug and work with rap contemporaries Audio Push as prime evidence. Today he delivers his iconic sound again, accompanied by partner in crime Travis $cott, in celebration of his 28th birthday. Listen for the duo's chemistry as Hit-Boy explained to The Fader, "Trav and I have a crazy creative energy together. That's why it feels like a party." Enjoy "Go All Night" below, Happy Birthday!
VibeRotation 19 /
Continuing with the eclectic vibes that were masterfully put together in last week's "Chillin' Me Softly" playlist is the nineteenth installment of VibeRotation. With many different genres intermingling with this rotation, there was a decided choice to transition from the harder bass-hitting hip hop tracks to the more house and pop bass lines that are heard throughout this 17-track playlist. While this iteration stays current with Tyga's new track and a Diplo remix to Rihanna's "B*tch Better Have My Money", it also travels back in time to feature songs/renditions from Mobb Deep, Frankie Beverly, Diana Ross, and Jamiroquai. 'Fresh Dressed' Documentary Examines the History of Fashion in Hip-Hop /
Hip-hop and fashion have formed a marvelous union ever since the genre's inception. Hip-hop and rap began as a movement for African American youths in New York and Los Angeles to be whoever they pleased.
Being "fresh" in Puma jumpsuits, baggy jeans, the latest Ralph, Jordan sneakers, and big gold chains accompanied the music that expressed individuality and freedom. Director Sacha Jenkins dives into this mentality, aesthetic, and lifestyle in the documentary, Fresh Dressed. The film taps archetypes Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Sean Diddy Combs, Big Daddy Kane, and Nas, who is also an executive producer, to chronicle the trends, business models, and tastemakers of fashion in hip-hop.
Pre-order Fresh Dressed now and get it on Vimeo On Demand June 26th. Enjoy the trailer above.
